What to do in Almeria
Staying in Almeria there are so many interesting places to visit, from all different periods to Spanish history. Take a walk through some of the prettiest streets known as “Las Ramblas”, which takes you all the way to the Port. Or the Park of San Nicolás Salmerón, in the Alcazaba Gardens in close proximity to the Arabic Fortress ( La Alcazaba ), located in the historical area in the City of Almeria which consists an abundance of historical buildings as well as the Cathedral, the first temple Almeriense built as temple-fortress, in a predominantly Gothic style. In principle was built to defend the City from pirate attacks. In the north of Almería, is the Region of La Vélez is found, with a great number of rock caves, many of which have been declared "Of great cultural interest by the Department of Culture of Andalusia”.
Many paintings were discovered on their walls, showing scenes relating to the activities from the first settlers of the Southeast peninsular, which used them for refuge. Almeria is also notorious not only for its superb beaches but for its rugged interior, where you can find Mini Hollywood located at Mini Hollywood, Tabernas, Carretera National 340km, Desierto de Tabernas, Almeria- a wild west town recreating shows, cowboys, a museum and restaurants, where many spaghetti westerns were filmed or Texas Hollywood - film studio, and theme park, where a Fist Full of Dollars was filmed. To enjoy wildlife Cabo de Gata Natural Park - the natural park is very close by and is well worth visiting, its a protected area with high ecological value, for its flora and fauna. With Almerias fabulous weather conditions making a trip to the Astronomical Center - in Gergal, Sierra de los Filabres, you will find an astronomical center where you will find the world’s most powerful telescope.
A water park for family entertainment is located in Roquetas de Mar, Camino Las Selinas, 10, Almeria and for those that enjoy playing golf, there are three nearby golf courses to Almeria’s City, Golf Almerimar - 18 hole course, with all the facilities necessary, Located on the Urb. Almerimar, El Ejido, Almeria. Playa Serena - Located in the area of Roquetas de Mar, an 1.5hrs drive from Mojacar. 18 hole course, La Envia - 18 hole course, 1hr from Mojacar and 20mins from Almeria. With a strong agricultural sector the cuisine from this province is noted for the excellent local produce available. Almeria has a strong tendency towards fish and shellfish which comes from its own fishing ports in the area (Almeria, Garrucha, Roquetas, Aguadulce). The use of excellent olive oil, local fruits (especially tomatoes), salads and vegetables make a gastronomic delight. The beach in Almeria City keeps a good standard but it is worth to take a trip up or down the Almeria Coast to see beautiful coves, sandy beaches and dunes, clearly showing that Almeria possesses one of the most beautiful coastlines of the Mediterranean.

Almeria Airport is located just 10km east of Almeria city itself (Airport Code – LEI). Almeria is now a very popular destination and cheap flights can be found flying out from the UK. The flying time would take less than three hours depending on your departure airport.
